Tried this restaurant for the first time today for Mother's Day brunch. While the menu sounded good, I was disappointed in many aspects of the brunch. Much of the hot food in the buffet pans was cold once I walked back to my table and I had to ask for it to be reheated. Don't know why this was a problem. I was baffled that crab cakes, that were prepared hot were left on a tiered display on the buffet to get cold and not served in a hot pan on the buffet with the rest of the hot items. Maybe they ran out of room ? Again, had to ask for the crab cakes to be reheated along with rice, corn, etc. Also, I watched an employee put the crab cakes onto the buffet with her bare hands, not using a plastic glove or tongs to put them out. I was horrified and said something to the manager/owner who promised to speak to the employee. This baffled me because I overheard the employee having a conversation with another employee and she mentioned she used to teach cooking classes to kids. Ummm, is this what they taught U in culinary school ? I thought they taught the students basic things about food safety and proper food handling.

Another thing that mystified me was that towards the end of the meal, when most guests had already left, some of the employees came out with complimentary mimosas for the few guests that remained. A nice gesture, but would have enjoyed it alot more when I was eating my egg dish earlier in the meal. A bit late for that.

However some of the food was quite good including some pork loin that had been marinated in tea and cooked with some orange rind and some orange sections which was some of the best pork loin I have ever had and the chicken marsala was good with large slices of fresh muchrooms in a nice sauce. Also enjoyed a Tebuleh salad that had grapes and oranges in it.

To top it all off, all the checks came out with an automatic 20% tip added on even though no mention of this was made on their website where the buffet menu was posted, on the flyer on the door or on the table. After almost every guest around me complained about this, this was adjusted . I told the mangager I would be happy to tip 15% and if they were going to do this, they needed to post that prior to doing it.

However, I will say that the staff tried very hard to give good service and checked back often to remove plates and ask if I needed anything. Alot of employees who work there are family members and everyone seems to get along well and have fun together. <!--EstablishmentsComments-->

<!--estcomments-->We at the Secret Tea Room Cafe pride ourselves on unique food items as well as clean and well prepared meals. Our Mother's Day Brunch was our 1st brunch and thanks to this customer we know how to better serve our guests. We will be starting the Sunday Brunches this Mother's Day 2012, again but this time no chafing dishes, hence no cold food. Thank for taking the time to let us know what we did wrong. We can only hope to see you again. Suzan Magee<!--estcomments-->
